About Me!Hello! My name is Megan Gray and I plan on owning the speech pathology business, Speech Blossom! My entire life has been spent around special needs children and children who have trouble speaking or have a speech impediment. The picture to the left is a picture of my sister who is autistic. She is nonverbal and she is the reason I chose this profession. Having her as my sister has been the biggest blessing and it has caused me to want to help anyone and everyone I can who has a speech disability. Speech and communication are such important factors in life and I will do the best I can to help any and every child I can.
I am attending the University of Georgia at this time and my intended major is speech pathology. I was born and raised in Social Circle, Georgia and graduated from Social Circle High School in 2012. I have three wonderful sisters and my family means everything to me. I swam for my high school as well as cheered and played soccer. I love being involved in things and one important thing I did was become involved with Georgia on My Mind. I was able to become a part of a leadership group and one main thing I did was start a Special Olympics at my school. I wanted to share my knowledge about special needs children and children with disabilities with other students at my school. It helped me get more experience with not only the children but also starting something by myself and finding out what it takes to organize and work with other people who work with special needs and have the same passion as me. UGA has been a big change for me and it has opened my eyes to so many new things. I have always wanted to be a speech therapist and being here so far has caused me to be even more excited about it. I have had the opportunity of getting to shadow a speech therapist and it made me fall in love with this career even more. I attend, and always have, First Baptist Church of Snellville, where there is a very large special needs program. I was able to help in my sisters class every week and that helped expose me to so many different kinds of children with different disabilities. I have had so many opportunities to work with children whom have a speech disability and not just to get hours for school, but because its what I love to do and it's what I have always done. My goal in life is to help as many people as possible. I feel that because I have grown up surrounded by special education and children with speech impediments and speech barriers, I understand how important it is to help. My sister is not able to communicate in any way and my hope is that I can help children communicate better or even at all if they aren't able to. I will do my best to help any child who comes to me and use what I have been taught through pure experience with my sister growing up and also with my education I have received. |
